The bamboo industry is divided into 3 sectors:

  1. Traditional Manufacturing
  2. Industrial Manufacturing
  3. Food
  4. Traditional Manufacturing
  • This is the primary usage of bamboo. Weaving, basketry, furniture, tools etc… Here bamboo is used in its original form. This industry relies on human skills that are often passed on through generations.
  1. Industrial Manufacturing
  • This is the modern bamboo industry. Advances in technology have enabled bamboo to be processed into modern, aesthetic products including furniture, tiles, fabric, boards and paper. This sub sector relies on the usage of modern machinery.
  1. Food
  • Certain bamboo species produce edible shoots annually. These are harvested and eaten fresh as a delicacy relish or canned.



Bambooo: As we inch towards Sept 18, let us be mindful, conscious, and aware of the potential that bamboo holds.

Let our generation be remembered for the solutions it proffered in tackling theproblems facing it- think the environment, climate change and poverty!

In India, bamboo is known as ‘the poor man’s timber’ yet today it has fast become the cornerstone. With bamboo we can do more 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼

On 18 September 2021, Bamboo Zimbabwe hosts the first ever observation of the World Bamboo Day for Zimbabwe at Forestry Commission Zimbabwe Head Office in Highlands, Harare. World Bamboo Day observation brings with it awareness and education on the goodness, advantages and benefits of bamboo on top of being a heralding call to adoption of bamboo in Zimbabwe.

There are over a thousand reasons why Zimbabwe needs to adopt bamboo. In summary these are: climate change mitigation and adaptation, environmental preservation and restoration, and economic development and growth.

Already, bamboo constitutes a growing USD60 billion industry.
